Discover Tidal energy powerful renewable energy- How It Works? • Subscribe My Channel for More Videos https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfSQ... • Hi everyone! Welcome back to my channel. Today I’m going to tell you about tidal energy. • Tidal energy is a very reliable source of energy because, unlike solar and wind energy sources, Earth’s tides are consistently accessible. Marine currents are a consistent source of kinetic energy generated by regular tidal cycles caused by the phases of the moon. The amount of electricity that is generated using tidal power is predictable but non-dispatchable, meaning it can’t be stopped and started easily in response to the human demand for energy. However, the predictability of tidal power makes it very attractive for grid management because it eliminates most of the need for back-up plants powered by fossil fuels. • tidal energy advantages and disadvantages • Tidal energy how it works? • Tidal turbines are placed on the ocean floor where there are strong tidal currents. They have to be very sturdy because water is 800 times denser than air. They are more expensive to build but are able to capture more energy with the same size of blades as wind turbines. These turbines are placed in the ocean in places with high tidal velocities and anchored with tubular steel pillars ten feet in diameter, set into a hole drilled in the ocean floor. • • What are some tidal energy advantages and disadvantages to consider when looking to invest in this relatively green energy source? • Tidal power is a known green energy source, at least in terms of emitting zero greenhouse gases. It also doesn’t take up that much space. The largest tidal project in the world is the Sihwa Lake Tidal Power Station in South Korea, with an installed capacity of 254MW. • Advantages of tidal energy: continuous, predictable energy: • Another benefit of tidal power is that it is predictable. The gravitational forces of celestial bodies are not going to stop anytime soon. Furthermore, as high and low tide is cyclical, it is far easier for engineers to design efficient systems, than say, predicting when the wind will blow or when the sun will shine. • Advantages of tidal energy: longevity of equipment: • Tidal power plants can last much longer than wind or solar farms, at around four times the longevity. Tidal barrages are long concrete structures usually built across river estuaries. • Disadvantages of tidal energy: lack of research: • While the true effects of tidal barrages and turbines on the marine environment have not been fully explored, there has been some research into how barrages manipulate ocean levels and can have similar negative effects as hydroelectric power • Disadvantages of tidal energy: the impact of EMF emissions: • Electromagnetic emissions might also disrupt the sensitive marine life, Fellow PNNL marine ecologist Jeff Ward said the organization was observing how EMFs damage the ability of juvenile Coho salmon to recognize and evade predators, or the negative impact on Dungeness crabs to detect odors through their antennules. • Tidal energy future of renewable energy? • The World Energy Council estimates that up to 1,000 GW of marine energy could be operating globally by 2050. This is a significant number, equivalent to half of the world’s present coal capacity. A study conducted by the U.S. Department of Energy found that Florida, along with 12 other states in the U.S., contains a large number of locations with a high kinetic power density that may be suitable for tidal energy stations. • Reference: • 1- https://www.snopud.com/site/content/d... • 2-https://www.snopud.com/site/content/d... • 3- https://www.statista.com/statistics/2... • 4- https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/w... • 5- https://sciencing.com/relationship-be... • 6- https://energyeducation.ca/encycloped... • 7- https://simecatlantis.com/ • 8- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MeyGen • 9-http://hfs.ncvps.org/Curriculum/Middl... • 10- https://simecatlantis.com/2019/07/26/... • 11- https://www.osti.gov/servlets/purl/10... • 12- https://tethys.pnnl.gov/sites/default... • 13- https://www.lanierupshaw.com/2019/02/... • You guys will enjoy this video a lot.
