Forging Fire Steel A Flint and Steel Striker

In this video I forge a flint and steel striker. I start with a piece of recycled coil spring which is a medium carbon steel. I show the process of forging out the steel, curling the ends and forming the shape. I then show the process of heat treating the striker. I quench it in water for maximum hardness which makes the striker very hard but also very brittle. The higher the carbon the better the spark will be. Spring steel will produce a spark but an old file produces better results. • Beckett’s Blacksmithing • At Beckett’s Blacksmithing I specialize in hand forged products and custom decorative ironwork. I use traditional tools and methods and heat my steel in a coal fired forge. In addition to this, I use modern tools such as welders, power tools, and gas torches to bring this ancient trade into the modern era. • Social Media • YouTube:    / @beaubeckett6045   • Facebook:   / beckettsblacksmithing   • Instagram: • Webpage: http://beckettsblacksmithing.com • • Hash Tags • #forge #blacksmithing #blacksmith #Bushcraft #firesteel #forging #flintandsteel #firestarting #primitivetechnology
