“Crosstown Traffic – Jimi Hendrix Experience - Bass Cover (with Lyrics) – FRANKS BASS COVERS • Song Notes: Released November 18, 1968 • Crosstown Traffic is a song written by #jimihendrix and recorded by the #jimihendrixexperience Experience for their third album, Electric Ladyland. • This song includes a famous kazoo riff, which Hendrix originally performed using a comb and a piece of cellophane. • Early blues musicians used the automobile as a metaphor for a woman quite often. • Volumes have been written about Hendrix and more music has been published and released by him after his death than before. • For this cover the focus will be on bassist Noel Redding (12/25/45 -5/11/2003). • Redding had played guitar but switched to bass guitar and became the second member of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, followed shortly by drummer Mitch Mitchell, to form a power trio. • With the group, he recorded three landmark albums: Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love, and Electric Ladyland. • Without consulting Redding, Hendrix announced that he intended to expand the group. Redding responded by quitting the Experience during the American tour on June 29, 1969, and returned to England • Redding had received $100,000 as a one-off payment after he had been told that there would be no more releases of Jimi Hendrix Experience material. • This was before the advent of CDs and DVDs. • In his autobiography “Are You Experienced?”, co-authored with his wife Carol Appleby, he spoke openly about his disappointment in his being cut off from the profits of the continued sale of the Hendrix recordings. • His wife died from injuries sustained in a car accident as they were returning home from attending a concert. The accident occurred two days prior to the completion of Redding’s autobiography.
