Connect Apple Watch to Concept2 Rowing Machine Using Echo BLE Heart Rate app

IMPORTANT - The price for Echo BLE has increased to $20 - rather than the $5 I mention in this video. • The video I made about Heart Rate monitors for rowing has a part where I say you can't connect the Apple Watch to a Concept2 rowing machine. I was wrong. • So I made another video, explaining how you can use HeartCast and Heartbeatz apps to do this. • Well, it turns out that HeartCast doesn't work so well right now. But when looking around for more info, I found the app ECHO BLE - which DOES do this. • In this video, I walk you through the connection, and this time, I prove it works!! • 🚦 I've had a couple of people get in touch about it not working with ErgData. I've just done a test, and it worked for me. I'm on the latest PM5 firmware, latest iOS / app versions. Here's the process that got it working for me: • 1) Open Echo - it asks to connect to PM5 • 2) Turn on PM5 • 3) Go to Connect - choose Connect Heart Rate • 4) Pick 'Echo' - wait for it to connect. Confirm. • 5) Stay on the Connect page on PM5 • 6) Launch Ergdata • 7) It connects automatically • 8) ErgData asks me if I want to remember HR. • 9) Pick yes. • 10) Start rowing - HR is on display. Set your monitor to 2000m and row it as fast as you can. When you're finished either look at the memory screen for that row, and note the Average /500m pace - or just divide your time by 4 to find that out. • For instance - if you rowed your 2000m in 8:20 - the average pace for 500m is 2:05. It doesn't matter if you started at 1:50 and then slowed down to 2:20 by the end - your average across the whole row is 2:05. • So when I give a pace guide saying 2K + 18 seconds - that means that you take your 2K time, and add 18 seconds to it (in the above example, 2:05 + 18 = 2:23 pace.) Just be sure to set your monitor so it displays your /500m pace so you can stay on target. • Every time you think you're getting faster, rather than just arbitrarily changing the pace guide - do another 2000m test to find your current 2K average time - and then work from that. ℹ • ==================What I use================== • • From time to time, people ask what kit I use for rowing and making these videos.
