What is a concrete footer? • In almost every new construction project, the first step once the ground is broken is to pour what is called a footer or footing. This is a critical step in a construction project because the footer is what gives a building its long-term stability. In Florida, the soil is loose and sandy and it shifts over time. In addition, there is no shallow bedrock to stabilize a foundation. In other words, there are no big rocks in the ground! • To combat the natural settling process, we create our own rocks. By pouring a footer under all of our load bearing walls, we spread the load out and eliminate the building's ability to settle. • The principle at work is the same principal that allows a concrete canoe to stay afloat (look up concrete canoe competition to have your mind blown). • 0:00 Intro • 0:02 Why do you put in a footer? • 1:12 Outro • If you have remodeling questions, please send them to [email protected] and we'll be happy to answer them!
