Hunger for Words Dog Talking Buttons

Teaching your dog to communicate with word buzzers has become a bit of a hot topic lately. • 🤔 Does your dog really learn to talk? • Do they understand the words or are they just performing a “trick”? • Why would you teach your dog to push a button to tell you something when dogs are perfectly capable of communicating with you through their own language? All we have to do is learn to read them. • 🤓 To me, it is about relationship, communication and engagement. • I think you can’t have too much of any of those. • When I teach my dog a new behavior, I care that she understands the consequences of performing that behavior in the future. • I want her to know she has the power to influence her environment. • She can get me to do something with what she does. • It’s just part of a conversation we’re having - her (mostly) silently, me much of the time through words. (I can’t help myself, I’m a member of a verbal species.) • 💯 The buzzer buttons are just another way to communicate. It’s like learning a foreign language. A way to translate words you already know in your language and now you can say the same thing with these weird new sounds. And your foreign friend actually understands what you want! Isn’t that exciting?!! • ✅ And as anyone who has learned another language to fluency will tell you, you are not the same person when you speak another language. My French-speaking self is slightly different from my English-speaking self. Who knows, maybe it’s the same for dogs? • Maybe a shy dog who doesn’t like to be pushy to ask for something will become more assertive by using buzzers. • Maybe a bold bully will become more thoughtful and measured through the deliberate action of pushing buttons? • I don’t know the answers, but I love to explore the possibilities. • Be kind. Do no harm. Listen. • And always • Have fun playing! • ❤️❤️❤️👣🐾❤️❤️❤️ • Here's the link to the Dinner Game we played with the final choice behavior. •    • Taste test: my dog eats a French dinn...   • ------------------------------------------------------ • WEBSITE https://bravenewdog.fr • FACEBOOK   / bravenewdog   • ------------------------------------------------------ • Music Airport Lounge by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com) License: CC BY
