With The Ritchie Family's 9th album All Night, All Right being widely ignored by the record-buying public, Vera, Jacqui and Linda quietly disbanded in 1984. Jacqui continued to be in show business as a dancer, singer and model, while Linda and Dodie returned to family life and dayjobs. Vera went back on tour in 1985 with her sister Sandra and Lisa Young, billed as Vera Brown The Rich Girls, promoting a new single Too Much, Too Fast, but mainly singing The Ritchie Family's past hits in her show, from Brazil, Best Disco In Town up to American Generation, Where Are The Men, and Give Me A Break. However, when Henri Belolo of Can't Stop Productions found out, he took legal action and got the single pulled from the shelves and stopped Vera from performing under that name. She would briefly join The Three Degrees in 1986, replacing Sheila Ferguson, but the venture did not work out and she would leave again. Vera admitted to being addicted to cocaine during the 80s but became a born-again Christian and quit her addiction overnight. Apart from a 1987 single of the group's biggest hit The Best Disco In Town (recorded by the first line-up) the group lay dormant for a decade until a new remix of I'll Do My Best started making some noise. Vera, Jacqui and Dodie started doing occasional performances from then on, sometimes with 1978 member Ednah Holt instead of Vera, but with the original line-up of Cassandra Wilson Cheryl Mason-Dorman coming out of retirement in 2011, legal issues arose with Cassandra Cheryl winning the rights to perform as The Ritchie Family in the US, sadly creating tension between the various group members who have all contributed to the legacy of the group. Vera, Jacque Dodie will still perform the first line-up's Best Disco In Town in their live acts (that they never sang on), and Cassandra Cheryl (joined by replacement member Renee Guillory Wearing) will similarly perform the second line-up's American Generation and I'll Do My Best in their act. • This compilation was put together by myself as a celebration of the second line-up's five albums and the best tracks from these albums, all presented here in their 7 single edits.
