The Dentist skit was filmed by George Mann in 1928 when W.C. Fields was appearing in the 7th Edition of the Earl Carroll Vanities at the Earl Carroll Theatre (now demolished) at 7th Avenue and West 50th Street. Fields later stared in a 20-minute short entitled The Dentist produced by Mack Sennett at Paramont Pictures in 1932.
