Crowning moment DESERT CROWN is sensational in the 2022 Cazoo Derby at Epsom

What a sensational performance from the Sir Michael Stoute-trained son of Nathaniel, who blows his rivals away to land the world's most famous and historic Flat race. • The unbeaten colt, trained by Sir Michael Stoute and ridden by Richard Kingscote, was travelling smoothly in a perfect position at the top of the straight and the premier Classic, run in memory of Lester Piggott, was more or less all over once he had sauntered into the lead two furlongs out. • The 5-2 favourite, owned by Saeed Suhail, accelerated clear of his 16 rivals and, although closed down a bit close home, won with great authority by two-and-a-half lengths. Stoute was winning the race for a sixth time but Kingscote was having only his second ride in the great race. • Hoo Ya Mal, a 150-1 chance, finished a gallant second for Andrew Balding, with Westover flying home late to finish third. The latter, representing Ralph Beckett, was the hard-luck story of the race, staying on stoutly after meeting some trouble in-running. • With Masekala, a stablemate of Hoo Yal Mal, in fourth, it was a British 1-2-3-4.
