Positionality is a rigid attitude or disposition of the ego mind, programmed by beliefs and reinforced by conventional society. Positionalities support the dualistic nature of the ego by creating cherished mental postures of intellectual, mental, knowing. Thinking that I am right and others are wrong, is a purely conceptual stance that the mind loves to defend, sending the whole thinking apparatus into overdrive. Positionality statement examples would be: Wrongs must be righted; The mind can determine Truth from falsehood; My race, gender, Nationality, Religion, political stance is superior. Understanding the meaning and limitations of these judgmental mental structures allows the spiritual seeker to begin to let go.
