MPGe on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPGE • • The term miles per gallon gasoline equivalent (MPGe) is a measure of distance traveled per unit energy consumption. It is useful for comparing the energy consumption of alternative fuel vehicles to those of gasoline based vehicles in terms of miles per US gallon, a unit familiar to US consumers. MPGe is based on the energy content of the fuel delivered to the vehicle. However, overall energy consumption of an alternative fuel vehicle also may have to consider the energy consumed to produce the fuel and deliver it to the vehicle, yielding a so-called well-to-wheel measure of efficiency, depending on the purpose of the energy comparison. • • For more information on the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE: http://progressiveautoxprize.org • • ---------------------------------------- • ABOUT THE PROGRESSIVE AUTOMOTIVE X PRIZE • • Our goal is to inspire a new generation of viable, safe, affordable and super fuel efficient vehicles that people want to buy. • • $10 million in prizes will be awarded in September 2010 to the teams that win a rigorous stage competition for clean, production-capable vehicles that exceed 100 MPG energy equivalent (MPGe).
