HomeMade Croutons Recipe (Fast Easy!) • Store-bought croutons are invariably dry and hard. Salads generally have a watery taste since lettuce, tomatoes and other vegetables in a salad are primarily mostly water. Salads need something with a texture that is less infirm. The homemade croutons need to be made from an artisan bread so that there is a harder crust. Fried with olive oil, butter, and garlic salt, homemade croutons have a hard yet chewy, buttery, seasoned taste. These are so tasty that you cannot help snacking on them every time you pass them. There is no comparison to the store-bought variety. • Cut the bread into thick slices, then into cubes to make homemade croutons. In a large flat skillet, melt butter and olive oil. Add more as needed. Add garlic and sauté bread cubes, covering all with the butter mixture and brown on medium heat. Do not burn garlic. • Sprinkle garlic salt lightly over croutons and sauté again until lightly crispy. • Layer individual salads with lettuce, chicken, croutons and cheese. Top with dressing.
