At Ralston Family Farms, we protect the land by utilizing cover crops and no-till planting to improve soil health and reduce erosion. • After harvest, we plant a diverse mix of cover crops including: Cereal Rye, Austrian Peas, Black Oats, and Crimson Clover. Then, in the spring, rather than conventional tilling (when you disturb and disrupt the soil) we sow directly into the cover crops using no-till planting. • Using these two practices together promotes a healthy underground ecosystem, working wonders to reduce erosion, encourage microbial activity, and boost biodiversity!
