In this video, we discuss the process of preparing beehives for winter. Before the video starts you should have already checked and dealt with mites and made sure there is enough food for the colony. As winter approaches, you want to get something like the Bee Cozy, an insulating wrap that serves a dual purpose. It retains warmth within the hive, allowing bees to access capped honey near the top, which helps them stay warmer during cold spells and while still giving them access to and from the hive. Additionally, it's of vital importance to manage moisture, using a quilt box filled with absorbent material, like burlap fragments, will prevent moisture from accumulating and freezing the bees. An alternative solution to moisture control is known as a moisture board. Finally, you will need a mouse guard to help avoid any mice getting into the hive in the winter as the bees are less able to defend the hive. By addressing these key aspects, beekeepers can significantly increase their bees' chances of surviving the winter season. • Shop Mann Lake: https://www.mannlakeltd.com • (0:41) • Bee Cozy Winter Wraps | WT160 : https://www.mannlakeltd.com/hives-com... • (2:01) • 10 Frame Quilt Box | WW390: https://www.mannlakeltd.com/winterizi... • (2:19) • Untreated Burlap Remnants | HD538: https://www.mannlakeltd.com/beekeepin... • (3:20) • 10 Frame Mouse Guard | HD591:https://www.mannlakeltd.com/hives-com... • Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe for more beekeeping wisdom and bee-friendly content.
