熊本県民謡 ”田原坂” • 西南戦争は明治１０年（１８７７）、西郷隆盛率いる鹿児島士族が起こした日本最大の内乱で、その西南戦争の激戦地となった熊本県の田原坂。 • 「雨は降る降る人馬は濡れる越すに越されぬ田原坂」緩やかな坂道が続く三池街道沿いにあたり、熊本城に向かう政府軍を坂上から西郷軍が迎え撃った。17日間、昼夜を問わず戦闘が続くが西郷軍は撤退する。近くの高瀬や吉次峠でも激しい戦闘が繰り広げられた。 • 熊本はほぼ全域が戦場となり、熊本城の炎上、田原坂の激闘がよく知られている。 • Kumamoto Prefecture Folk Song Tabaruzaka • The Seinan War was the largest civil war in Japan, caused by the Kagoshima warriors led by Saigo Takamori in 1877, and Tabaruzaka in Kumamoto prefecture became the site of fierce battles. Along the Miike highway, where the gentle slope continues, the Saigo army greeted the government troops heading for Kumamoto Castle from the top of the slope. For 17 days, fighting continued day and night, but the Saigo army withdrew. Fierce battles also took place at nearby Takase and Yoshitsugu Pass.
