For this year's thaipusam I had to turn things around and get socializing with people , I asked all of them one question.......... Which is what do you like about thaipusam ? Well if I had to answer this question i would say that I love the vibe the crowd and colour yellow that everyone will be wearing people carrying palkudams , kavadi's and everything. • Thaipusam is not a one day celebration , hence the celebration starts right after pongal where I had post a short of the celebration : • • Happy pongal ! #pongal#happypongal#sh... • Go check it out ! • So after pongal celebration which fell on the 15th of January this year therefore devotees can start to carry palkudam (milk pots) and kavadi's to fulfill their vows . Thaipusam day which was on the 25th of January , but 2 days before thaipusam which is on the 23th of January , devotees shall be gathered in and around Sri maha mariaman temple for the silver chariot . Lord Murugan and his 2 wives will be traveling on the chariot all the way to batu caves which is a 6 hours walk if you walk before the chariot an after the chariot reaches batu caves the flag will raised and exactly on the 25th of January thaipusam is celebrated which is the day where lord Murugan's mother goddess Parvati gave him the vel ( Murugan's spear ) to vaquish the evil demon , surapadman • So thaipusam is celebrated on behalf of lord Murugan's victory on vaquishing the evil demon surapadman . • But what does the word THAIPUSAM means ? • THAI = the month of the Indian calander • PUSAM = • well and that's all you need to know about thaipusam !
