Vocal cover by Jeff Allen - 😉 HEADPHONES PLEASE 😉 • Little Child was written by Paul and John for the sole intention of providing a song for Ringo to sing for The Beatles’ second British album, With The Beatles. • “Certain songs were inspirational and you just followed that” explained Paul, “certain other songs were work songs. ‘Right, come on, two hours, song for Ringo for the album.’ They had to be fairly simple. [Ringo] didn't have a large vocal range but he could handle things with good con brio and spirito if they were nice and simple. It had to be something he could get behind. If he couldn't picture it, you were in trouble.” Unfortunately, Ringo could not “picture the con brio” and passed on it, possibly in favor of I Wanna Be Your Man. • While Little Child was written very quickly (“two hours”) it was never part of The Beatles' live set. So, Little Child took an unusual amount of time to get right in the studio. They recorded it over three sessions at Abbey Road, eventually laying down over 20 takes, including overdubs of harmonica and piano. If they had time to become more familiar with Little Child and even perfect the song beforehand, they would probably not have taken so long to record it. Despite spending a considerable amount of time on the song by 1963 standards, the performance sounds spontaneous and, at times, fairly slapdash. • -- COVER VERSION -- • While I did not have time to perfect my version of this song as part of my “live” repertoire ;) I did have 50 years to familiarize myself with it! So, I did this in just two takes for John’s double-tracked vocals and then a few overdubs to lay in Paul’s harmony. This has got to be Beatlemaniam’s fastest cover! • NOTE: If I had decided to overdub or correct anything it would be at 1:13 where my enunciation leaves a bit to be desired. Also at 0:52, my “scream” sounds more like a cat than a Beatle! • ===================================================================== • • All lead and backup vocals performed and arranged by Jeff Allen. • • Instrumental rights provided by: • www.karaoke-version.com • • Vocal arrangements helped by: Galeazzo Frudua's “The Beatles Vocal Harmony” channel • / @thebeatlesvocalharmony • =====================================================================
