Edmunds’ Senior Writer Carlos Lago heads to the test track to see how fast the 2017 Honda Civic Si will go in a straight line! He also takes it through a few corners for good measure, too. How good is the new Civic Si as a complete package and do you really need that Civic Type R? Watch this video, to get some answers. • Q: What kind of engine and drivetrain does the Honda Civic Si have? • A: The Civic Si is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-4 that sends power to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a helical limited-slip differential. The engine makes 205 horsepower at 5700 rpm and 192 pound-feet of torque between 2100 and 5000 rpm, with a redline (max engine speed) of 6500 rpm. No wonder we had to shift early. • Q: How much does a 2017 Honda Civic Si cost? • A: A 2017 Honda Civic Si starts at an MSRP of $24,790 (including destination) while a 2018 cost $24,990. There are a few options and packages that’ll push you north of $30,000 though the Si comes decently equipped in standard form. • Q: How fast is the 2017 Civic Si? • A: From a standstill, Edmunds recorded a quick run to 60 mph in 6.8 seconds (6.6 seconds if you factor in the 1-foot dragstrip rollout) and a quarter-mile run of 15.0 seconds at 92.8 mph. By comparison, the Civic Type R posted a 0-60 mph time of 5.6 seconds (5.3 seconds with rollout) and passed the quarter at 13.7 seconds at 105.3 mph. They were tested on different days. • Edmunds – we help you find your perfect car with unbiased and useful reviews, advice, pricing and tools. Visit us at http://edmunds.com.
