June 9, 2015 • Watch: Video of fish jumping out of water caught on camera by fishermen • There’s something fishy going on in Stanley – although experts say the phenomenon is entirely natural. • A video clip widely shared online shows a huge number of small fish – perhaps tens of thousands – flying out of the water onto the rocky shore near St Stephen’s Beach. • A former fisherman identified the species involved as part of the clupeidae genus, a group that includes herrings, shads and sardines. • I guessed there might be as many as tens of thousands of them • The phenomenon lasted for about 30 seconds and was caught on camera at about 4pm on Sunday. • Wong Yung-kan, a former agriculture and fisheries sector lawmaker and fisherman, said jumping clupeidae was a seasonal phenomenon occasionally seen from May to August in many parts of Hong Kong, including Stanley, Tolo Harbour and northeastern waters. • In July 2013, a similar incident was seen in waters near the Central piers
