Bodycam Video Shows LAPD SWAT Shoot Alleged Armed Suspect During Standoff

The Los Angeles Police Department released bodycam video showing their SWAT team shooting an allegedly armed suspect, 54-year-old Leron James, on May 3. Central Patrol officers responded to a backup request from the Los Angeles Fire Department about a suicidal man. Upon arrival, the man pointed a gun at officers after they tried to speak to him, prompting officers to request additional backup from the LAPD SWAT team and the Crisis Negotiation team. The SWAT team used a chemical agent in an attempt to coerce the suspect out of his apartment. The suspect responded by shooting his firearm out his window, at which time an officer shot him. Officers pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene.
