There are a lot of indexing tools available to the machinist and one of the most versatile ones is the Horizontal/Vertical Collet Indexer, which uses direct indexing. These are plentiful on the new and used market, relatively inexpensive, use 5C collets or chucks, and once they are set up, indexing is very fast and practically fool proof.
