The memory of the boy with a hood and the light purple haired girl's expressions replayed into her mind. • It's okay, Hiro reassured her, his voice gentle and firm, They'll get over it. Everyone makes mistakes. • No… Mai shook her head in denial, rubbing her eyes with her sleeve, her self-doubt became more prominent. I can’t… do anything right… • That’s not true, Hiro’s voice firm yet filled with understanding. You can do a lot of things right. This was just a mistake. Don’t let it define you. • Hiro… I hurt her… Mai's voice quivering as the memories flashed through her mind. I... I was going to die... • What...? He asked, trying to comprehend what Mai had just said. • I’m a murderer... She managed to say, her sobs intensified as she struggled to catch her breath. • “Deep breaths, Mai,” Hiro repeated, his voice filled with urgency as he tried to calm her down. It's okay, just take deep breaths. • “In a room... she was going to... kill me... Between sobs and gasps for air, Mai managed to gasp out a few words. • It's okay, take your time, Hiro held her closer, trying to offer whatever comfort he could. • Mai's breathing slowly calmed down, her tears fading into a quiet sobs as she collected herself. Okay... she finally said, still shaky, I... I woke up in a dark room, and Eri Hikari was there… • The artist…? Hiro’s tone filled with a mix of worry and surprise, as he recognized the name: Eri Hikari. • Mai nodding weakly. The memories flashed in her mind, causing her to shiver. There were guns... She took a deep, shaky breath before continuing, A robot… apparently wanted us to... use it on each other... • “And… Eri… shot me..?” Confusion and disbelief washed over Mai as she looked down at her hand, finding only unharmed skin. The memory of being shot was so vivid in her mind, yet her body showed no signs of injury. • Hiro hesitantly said, “Mai, I was in the same situation as you… but I didn’t use the gun on my partner. The doors were unlocked.” • You were in the same situation...?” Mai mumbles, her voice barely above a whisper, The doors were unlocked...? • Hiro nodded. Mai felt the weight of her actions sink in, dropping to her knees. Hiro wrapped his arms around her, holding her tightly as she processed the newfound information. The realization that she could’ve left the room without death made her feel sick to her stomach. Oh god... she murmured, her voice barely audible. • Hiro offered his apologies and reassurance, guilt washed over him. He didn’t notice Mai was in the gym, or even asleep until the pink-haired girl had woken her up. In that moment, he had felt a flicker of happiness, but now, Hiro wished Mai was home, shielded from this terrifying ordeal.
