Baby Swans! • Baby Swans? Swan ducklings? Baby swans are called cygnets. It is now the season for young cygnets to be spotted all around the northern hemisphere. These lovely large water birds, mute swans have large eggs, about 5-10 eggs in each nest or clutch and produce these fluffy baby swans or cygnets! • The first cygnets we see are in the middle of The Netherlands in Ermelo at Strand Horst. A popular wind surfing location is also important for the mute swans. Look at all of those birds! Later we’re back in South Holland at the Groenzoom and see a nice mute swan pair showing off their baby swans or cute cygnets. Baby swans are quite adorable the first few weeks. After a couple of months though, they get into the “ugly duckling” stage! (Even though I still find them beautiful) • “Those familiar with the fairytale “The Ugly Duckling” by Hans Christian Andersen may remember how the ‘ugly duckling’ in the story was actually a baby swan and not a duckling at all! In real life, baby swans are not really ugly at all and are well-loved for their fluffy down.” Source: https://birdfact.com/articles/baby-swans • #swans #cygnets #ducklings • Cygnets, not baby swans, but either way, extremely cute.
