The Himalayan langur is the only primate found in the Himalayan range. They are highly social animals ranging from north-western Pakistan, through Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the western Himalayas in India, to Nepal in the east. https://india.mongabay.com/2020/06/fo... • The majority of suitable habitat for the animal lies outside protected areas such as sanctuaries, national parks and conservation reserves. The primate is threatened by conflict with humans and stray dogs. • According to a recent study, climate change may force the leaf-eating animal to move out of forests in protected areas in the western Himalayas in India and Nepal, to forests that are outside protected areas. • As the species move into unexplored forest areas, it may lead to a rise in conflict, initially between the langurs and other wildlife, and then humans. • __________ • For more news and inspiration from nature's frontline in India, visit Mongabay India https://india.mongabay.com/ • Instagram https://www.instagram.com/mongabayind... • Twitter / mongabayindia • Facebook / mongabayindia • Subscribe to Mongabay India's weekly newsletter here: https://bit.ly/38EyUXi • And don't forget to hit subscribe on our YouTube page!
