Old Mill Steinmaur, Switzerland. • The mill is one of the oldest mills in canton Zurich / Switzerland, it was mentioned in official documents first in the year 1305. The buildings that you see in this video are built in the year 1806. In 1953/54, the mill was completely refitted and automated at the same time. The plant was able to process 15 tonnes of wheat into flour within 24 hours, in later years 30-35 tonnes. It was the most modern mill in Switzerland for many years. • The mill was shut down in 1985 for economic reasons, then sold several times, but all plans to tear it down were cancelled. On 2nd March 2024, a big fire destroyed one of the buildings nearly • complete. The reason for the fire is not known. • I needed a while to enter the mill at the beginning, it was more difficult for me (unstable ground), than it looks in the video.
