His native language Subiya, also known as Kuhane, is spoken by as many as 31,000 people, primarily in the southern African nations of Namibia, Zambia, and Botswana. A member of the Bantu family of languages, Subiya is most closely related to languages like Tonga and Soli, both spoken primarily in Zambia.
