The Vatican has launched the official cartoon mascot for the Catholic Church’s 2025 Jubilee year. Named “Luce”, the mascot was unveiled last Monday at a press conference by Archbishop Rino Fisichella, the Vatican’s chief organizer for the jubilee. Luce, meaning ‘light’ in Italian, was designed by Simone Legno, co-founder of the Japanese-inspired lifestyle brand Tokidoki. • • Luce sports a yellow raincoat that denotes both the Vatican and the journey through life’s storms. Her muddy boots represent a long, difficult journey and she carries a pilgrim’s staff. She is accompanied by her pilgrim friends Fe, Xin, and Sky, and a pet dog, Santino. Luce’s eyes have the reflection of scallop shells – a symbol of pilgrimage. A special space will be dedicated to Luce and friends at this week’s Lucca Comics and Games - an annual comic book and gaming convention in Lucca, Italy. • • The Vatican has organized a wide array of cultural programs, concerts, and art exhibitions starting November 3. Various rare icons from the Vatican museums as well as from countries around the world will also be exhibited. • • Celebrated every 25 years, the Jubilee is a year-long, grace-filled celebration when the faithful are called to reflect on their faith, renew their commitment to God, and experience His mercy.
