A day at the range with the M-16a4. • The M-16 really does not need a whole lot of introduction as it is one of the most recognizable modern military firearms in the world. The original M-16, developed by Eugene Stoner. was created in 1964 and fielded by the Army and Air Force for use in Vietnam in 1965. The M16A1 was officially fielded in 1969 and included a forward assist, a chrome lined barrel and the addition of a 30 round magazine. In 1983 the US Marine Corps helped create the M16A2, which was later adopted by the US Army in 1986, and included a heavier barrel for use with the M855 cartridge, a refined adjustable rear sight, improved handguard, grip and buttstock, and replaced the full auto capability with a 3 round burst setup. In 1997 the newest, and current version oft he M-16, the A4 model came into use where it still sits today. The A4 features a removable carrying handle and Picatinny rail on both the receiver and handguard for optics, lights and other accessories. • The rifle weighs 7.5 lbs and features a 20 inch barrel with a 1:7 twist rate to better stabilize the current military 5.56 cartridge. It is a very capable rifle and in the hands of someone trained to use it properly can engage targets out to 550m consistently. There are a lot of newer, modern rifles in use by both the US Military as well as militaries throughout the world, but the M16/ M4 platform still holds a place near the top of the list. • 00:00 M-16a4 • 01:47 semi-auto firing of the M-16a4 • 01:52 burst firing of the M-16a4 • --------- • Follow Legacy Arms on Instagram and Facebook for more gun history, rare finds firing fun! • FACEBOOK:   / legacyarmsintl   • INSTAGRAM:   / legacyarmsintl   • --------- • DISCLAIMER: All firearms in this video are in use at a gun range, with all necessary safety precautions in place.
