Begedil or bergedil is a delicious Malay fried potato patty commonly sold at nasi padang stalls. It is made of creamy mashed potatoes and spiced with Chinese celery and cumin. Begedils can be eaten as a snack or a side dish to mee soto or nasi lemak, but this recipe is so delicious, we could eat them all as a full meal instead! • • Subscribe to our channel and click the bell icon for more delicious home cooked recipes! • Serves: 8 pieces | Preparation time: 10 minutes • Ingredients: • • 5-6 medium potatoes, sliced 1 cm thick wedges • • Knife 100% Pure Groundnut Oil • • 1 stalk spring onion, chopped • • 2 tbsp fried shallots • • 1 tsp white pepper powder • • ¼ tsp cumin powder • • ½ tbsp salt • • 1 egg, beaten • • 2 eggs, beaten for coating • Cooking steps: • 1. Fry the sliced potatoes on low heat until they are soft and a light golden brown. Drain them and mash in a bowl before adding the Chinese celery, fried shallots, pepper, cumin powder, egg, salt, and sugar. Mix well. • 2. Knead the dough with hands and shape into big round balls. Press to flatten the balls slightly to form a patty. • 3. Heat oil on high-medium heat to fry the patties. • 4. Coat each patty in egg and put them to fry immediately. The patties will float to the surface when they are ready. Fry until a deep golden brown. • 5.
