In response, Sonic fights off Robotnik's drones and uses one of his rings to send Tom and Maddie back to Green Hills to protect them, but Robotnik uses the quill's power to match Sonic's speed. Sonic engages Robotnik in chase battle across the world, before Robotnik knocked Sonic unconscious back in Green Hills, but Tom and the townsfolk intervene, and Tom says that Sonic is his friend, causing Sonic to regain his strength. With Tom's help, Sonic overpowers and defeats Robotnik by banishing him into a portal to the mushroom planet with his powerful spin attack.
