ORANGE CITY, FLORIDA — In a sight you don’t see every day, an alligator photographed riding a manatee is making the rounds on social media. • • The fascinating photo uploaded to Facebook on Nov. 30 was taken by a woman visiting Blue Spring State Park. When she caught sight of an alligator catching a lift on board the manatee express, her picture instantly became a frontrunner in the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s manatee photo contest. • • In truth, manatees and alligators do cross paths from time to time. The curious manatees often follow the alligators around. Interestingly enough, alligators actually would prefer to steer clear of the 1,000-pound sea cows.
