Quatuor AVENA • György Ligeti / Six Bagatelles • I. Allegro con spirito • II. Rubato. Lamentoso • The six bagatelles are a selection of pieces taken from the work Musica Ricercata, a series of eleven movements written for piano in 1953. Ligeti himself then transcribed these pieces for wind quintet which the version for saxophone quartet is now based on. • As Ligeti was living in Hungary at the time when he composed this piece it was originally banned by the government, it is therefore with great pleasure that this work can now be performed freely after almost a decade of censorship. • • Sop.
