The idea is you will want to pick up the Sunpoint Plasma Drill at Fortuna from Smokefinger for 2500 Solaris United rep. That will have the best odds of high rarity gems as well as unlock all the rare gems for mining. Ores are mined from red/orange veins while gems are mined from blue veins (I goofed the explanation a tad in the video). Other than mining you can buy up the debt bonds from Ticker and then sell those for standing back to ticker. Just remember to keep enough debt bonds to rank up! Those are pretty much the fastest ways right there.
