A battle of the egos took place as HBK and Hulk's backstage issues transferred into the ring, and Shawn Michaels decided to oversell everything the Hulkster did in the ring. It's been widely reported that Shawn Michaels vs Hulk Hogan was supposed to be a match series where the 2 legends would share victories over a few pay per views, but when Hogan decided it was a one and done deal and when it was decided that Hogan would win the match, Shawn Michaels decided to make a joke of the match by selling all of Hulk Hogan's offense with high amounts of gusto. • Hulk Hogan made his WWE return in 2005 after receiving a Hall of Fame induction. Initially, Hogan and Shawn Michaels joined forces, but it didn't take long for Michaels to turn his back on The Hulkster. A storyline developed where Shawn Michaels would say he never bought into the myth of Hulkamania, and Shawn turned heel in order to work this one single match at Summerslam.
