Is Batrachotoxin the Deadliest Poison In The World? How does Batrachotoxin kill you? • Hello everyone, welcome to Bite Size Life and in today’s video I’m going to talk about Batrachotoxin. If anyone uses it, it will be the weapons of mass destruction. This substance is much more dangerous than nuclear weapon. • Weapons of Mass Destruction, be it nuclear or biological, are very inhumane and unfair means of fighting enemies. However, biological weapons are by far more destructive than nuclear ones. • Morally speaking, the technology that was supposed to save human life is exploited for destructive means. New weapons are being made all the time, including chemical and biological weapons. • Batrachotoxin is an alkaloidal steroid toxin found in the exudates from the skin of dart poison frogs that are indigenous to Central and South America, and in feathers and skin of birds of the genus Pitohui living in New Guinea. Batrachotoxin is an important research tool in pharmacology because of its action of holding voltage-gated sodium channels open as well as its specific effects at other ligand-binding sites. It was commonly used in ion channel and ligand research. • Poison dart frogs might look like cute colorful little toys, but don’t be fooled. Their toxin, called batrachotoxin, forces open sodium channels on nerve cell membranes with horrific results. Research showed that these frogs are much more toxic then bird. • The most poisonous animal in the world is difficult to quantify, but one of the most deadly is, without question, the golden poison frog native to Colombia. They look adorable, but within their skin glands, they store an alkaloid toxin called batrachotoxin. Enough of it, on average, to kill 10 human beings if the poison enters your bloodstream, you'll likely be dead in under 5 minutes. • Thanks to god we are not living near a tropical rainforest.
