In this video series Almut Hintze and Benedikt Peschl will take you on a journey into the history, sounds, words, structures, and texts of Avestan. • Avestan belongs to the Indo-Iranian languages. It is the oldest attested East Iranian language. As the name says, it is the language of the Avesta, a collection of texts that are used in Zoroastrian rituals. The Avesta script is quite unique: it is an attempt to render the actual pronunciation of the texts.
