Eternals Ikaris Betrayal Explained READUS 101

At the end of the movie, Ikaris flies into the sun incinerating himself, but why? The answer to that lies in the conversation he had with Sersi when they went to get Druig. There Ikaris says that if Arishem finds out that she is trying to stop the emergence, he will kill her. He says he is not strong enough to protect her from a celestial. She doesn’t listen. Fast forward to the end when Ikaris sees that Sersi has killed the celestial he knows what’s going to happen next. His only fear is that he might have to witness Sersi dying. He does not want that so he ends his life first. • Another reason could be that he is conflicted between duty (loyalty towards Arishem) and love (for Sersi). Call it a glitch in his programming where he is unable to decide what to do.
