Day 5 - Shortlanesend to Trequite • May 18, 2024 • We woke up to humidity-soaked tents...and Enzo looking for someone to play with. • After spending the morning with Laura, Lee and Enzo, we packed up our wet tents and headed back up the short but punchy climb to B3284 and continued north. After only a few kms, we encountered a road closure...so we had to reroute. The zig-zag alternate and a couple of turn arounds eventually took us to Newlyn East, where we stopped for a break and I had my first Cornish Pasty...yumm! • We continued north towards Newquay in hopes to find sunny skies and ocean views...but all we got was low hanging clouds and no views. • Our original plan was to ride up to Padstow, where we heard there were amazing views of the coast...but as the forecast showed continued cloudiness and fog on the coast, we decided to stay inland and head towards Wadebridge. All along the way, there was no shortage of climbing, as indicated in the data in the link provided in this description....and the sun would never make an appearance that day. • We stopped in Wadebridge for a resupply at the Lidl grocery store, searched for and found a campground further north, then climbed out of town towards our eventual stop at the Mill Meadow Campground, located just outside of the village of Trequite. It was a decent spot to camp, however the cooking facilities, while adequate, were quite cramped and situated in a well used and grounded open-backed covered trailer. • As we settled in for the night, a heavy bank of fog and mist moved in and stayed with us for the evening. Due to the detours and several turn arounds, It was a much shorter day than we had hoped to do. • No doubt we were looking forward to brighter days ahead, as the weather forecasters seemed to promise... • Ride details and route map can be found here: • https://cyclemeter.com/8c43cf9d11bd7f...
