My very own version of the famous feather lamp using IKEA Kryssmast lamp. • I created the tree trunk look using air-dry clay and then added gold leaf. • I have since made another table version of the lamp and the whole (updated) process can be found here: • For the tree trunk -    • DIY tree trunk table lamp body (part ...   • For the feather lampshade -    • DIY feather lampshade (for my feather...   • The bulb is encased within customised acrylic parts which include several stackable pieces of acrylic discs that serve as a base for the dome lampshade in which I screwed long rod coupling nuts as holders for the feathers. • One of the main reasons I came up with this method of building the lampshade was to keep it safe - the bulb is housed inside the acrylic dome and separated from the feathers. No feathers come into contact with the bulb so there’s no fire-hazard, unlike other versions of the lamp out in the market. Another reason for using acrylic is since it is see-through, I can get away with using just one central bulb to light the whole tree, even for the floor lamp version where I used much bigger feathers. • To map out the drill holes to better precision, I found this site to be very useful: • https://monolithicdome.com/spherical-... • NOTE: About the feathers • I got my feathers from an e-commerce site that listed them as “artificial ostrich feathers”. This was my first time seeing such feathers up close so I couldn’t tell they were actually real feathers until a friend came to take a look and confirmed they’re real. • By that time, the video had actually been done posted. So while it said “faux feathers”, they’re actually not.
