A January 9, 1960 broadcast recording of the fabled French pianist Agnelle Bundervoët playing Debussy's Images Livre 1: • 0:00 Reflets dans l'eau • 5:50 Hommage a Rameau • 13:49 Mouvement • Bundervoët was a Lazare-Lévy pupil who had largely retired from performance shortly before this broadcast was made due to rheumatoid arthritis. Fortunately the artist was able to continue to make occasional broadcasts as well as the odd concert appearance, and some of these have been recorded though rarely issued. • This marvellous performance (from a now-deleted Japanese CD set) captures the artist's evocative, sensitive, yet controlled pianism at its best: exquisite tone in every note, magnificent pedal effects, precise and consistent articulation, phenomenally refined dynamic shadings, and clear phrasing all serve her masterful conceptions of each of these three works. • Part of a centenary tribute to the pianist, with this feature on my website: • https://www.thepianofiles.com/agnelle... • If you wish to support The Piano Files, please consider membership on Patreon: / thepianofiles
