It climbed to #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart and #4 on the UK Singles Chart. • Personnel on the studio recording: • • Hal Blaine - drums • • Larry Knechtel - keyboards • • Joe Osborn - bass • • Tommy Tedesco and Mike Deasy - guitars • • Jimmy Webb - harpsichord. • MacArthur Park was written and composed by Jimmy Webb in the summer and fall of 1967. • In 1967, producer Bones Howe had asked Jimmy Webb to create a pop song with classical elements, different movements and changing time signatures. Jimmy delivered MacArthur Park to Bones with everything he wanted , but Howe did not care for the ambitious arrangement or unorthodox lyrics. The song was originally presented to the group: The Association, but they rejected it. Richard Harris took it all the way to the top! • Richard John Harris (October 1, 1930 – October 25, 2002) was an Irish actor and singer. He appeared on stage and in many films, notably as Frank Machin in This Sporting Life, for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor, and as King Arthur in the 1967 film Camelot, as well as the 1981 revival of the stage musical. • Technical Information: • I used SpectraLayers PRO-7 to isolate the Vocal, Orchestra, Drums, Bass and Piano into 5 separate tracks.
