Like other Omega watches, it comes in a clamshell and the other accoutrements and materials are in a separate box. • [00:41] Part 1: Unboxing • Inside the outer cardboard box is another box with a black sleeve around it. Removing the sleeve reveals a black cardboard box with the OMEGA logo. • When opening this box, the next thing you'll find is your watch's Certificate of Authenticity. Besides this, there's an informational booklet on the Speedmaster and a guide to the pulsometer. • Next up is the actual storage box for the watch. As you may remember from my review, linked above, the Omega Seamaster Spectre is one of my all-time top watch boxes. • In comparison, the Speedmaster CK2998 has a rather understated box. It's black on the outside, with readily visible wood grain and the Omega logo on the lid. A push-pin opens the case, and the Speedmaster seal is visible inside the lid. • Beside the storage box is the instruction manual, though this chronograph has no extra-special complications that will be difficult to learn. • Finally, you'll find the warranty cards in a special holder. • [02:58] Part 2: Watch History • First off, some history on the reference CK2998 this watch takes its name from. The original CK2998 was released in 1959, and later became the first watch in space in 1962. • Back in 1959, this watch came in four different bezel options. The CK with tachymeter to register speed got a re-release in 2016, while the pulsometer version we see here is from 2018. The other two bezels were a decimal and telemeter scale, respectively. • [04:13] Part 3: Technical Specs • Inside the watch is Omega calibre 1861, deeply rooted in Moonwatch history. This is a manual-winding watch with 48 hour power reserve. The crystal is sapphire, while the pulsometer scale is a ceramic bezel insert. On the back of the case is the Omega seahorse medallion. • This release has a straight chronograph seconds hand, one thing I didn't like. I prefer the 2016 version's lollipop hand over this one. Still, it has strong contrast, and is easy to read. The white of the dial has a slight sandblasted texture, adding depth to this version. • Dimensions are exactly the same as the 2016 version. Note that my plastic calipers, while unable to scratch the watch, are only accurate to within half a millimetre. • Case diameter: 39mm • Case-to-crown: 41mm • Lug-to-lug: 47mm • Case depth: 14.5mm • Strap width: 19mm • To me, the combination of the racing-style perforated strap with a medical complication seems a little bit off base. The water resistance rating is 50m; don't go swimming with this one! • 311.32.40.30.02.001 is the watch's reference number. • [07:19] Part 4: Pros Cons • Pros: • • Looks great, and Omega's patented dials will probably always be in fashion • • Black white colorway is more timeless • • Limited edition, in 2998 pieces • • Vintage Omega logo • Cons: • • Only water resistant to 50m • • Perforated strap doesn't quite suit this watch • Another potential con: now that I've got two bezel styles, am I now part committed to buy the other two in the future? I'm interested to see what colors Omega will come out with for the telemeter and decimal scale versions. Green, maroon, purple? • REMEMBER to comment! We'd love to hear your thoughts on this watch and this series with its different bezel scales. • Yours, • The Bespoke Unit Team • CONNECT: • Web: https://BespokeUnit.com • Instagram:   / bespokeunit   • Facebook:   / bespokeunit   • Twitter:   / bespokeunit   • Subscribe to Newsletter: https://BespokeUnit.com/newsletter/ • Omega Speedmaster CK2998 2018 Watch Review: A Timeless Pre-Professional? •    • TUDOR Black Bay Bronze Watch Review: ...
