Wage Gap. Let go with that one. • 0:16 And what contributes to the wage gap? Minimum wage. • 0:20 Yep, one of the variables in that contested stat, is the fact that women are concentrated in low wage jobs. In fact, women make up nearly 2/3s of the minimum wage workers in every state. • • 0:29 And it should be no surprise that in every state and in every state if you’re making minimum wage, you’re struggling to even pay rent. • 0:35 Last year, Democrats introduced a bill that would raise the minimum wage by roughly a dollar a year until it hit $15 in 2024. • 0:41 What is $15 by 2024 mean? • 33% of the female workforce would get a raise. • 32% of working mothers would get a raise. • And 19 million children would have at least one parent who would get a raise. • 0:55 As for the economy, raising minimum wage affects consumer spending and taxfunded assistance programs. • Hint: one goes up and the other goes down. • 1:03 If for some reason you don’t think congress can get this done there's a lot of words you can support locally. In fact cities and counties across the country have been leading the way on chnaging and increasing local minimum wage laws. • 1:15 Look up groups like fight for $15 and ROC United to learn more. Just find out what the minimum wage is in your city. Imagine working full- time try and then trying to live off of it. • Hashtag empathy. • 1:30 So, job creation? Awesome. Public celebrations of women? Great.
