On July 4th 2022, a flash flood in the river Emme carrying woody debris passed the Emme river restoration reach in Bätterkinden/Utzenstorf (river widening Emmeschache-Urtenensumpf , Kanton Bern, Switzerland). The river restoration reach contains several Engineered Log Jams (ELJ) that were built inside the active river channel for the enhancement of aquatic habitat and river bed morphology. During the flood, the four ELJ-structures depicted in the video (three island-ELJs located upstream, one bank attached ELJ downstream) accumulated woody debris on their fronts - a process also observed in natural stable log jams. Wood accumulation on the front, together with natural growth of hard wood tree species on top of the structure/island is vital to the long-lasting effect of natural log jams and their biomimicry (ELJ). • Maximum discharge was 121 m3/s. • Video of ELJ construction in Emme River, Bätterkinden:    • Engineered Log Jam (ELJ) - Ämmeschache   • Video of ELJ construction in Sense River, Schwarzenburg:    • Video   • More info on Engineered Log Jams in Switzerland: • https://plattform-renaturierung.ch/me...
