Ecological genetics concerns itself with observing microevolution in the wild. Typically, observable instances of evolution are examples of microevolution; for example, bacterial strains that have antibiotic resistance. Microevolution over time leads to speciation or the appearance of novel structure, sometimes classified as macroevolution.
