The majestic bell tower of the main church in Parma (Italy) houses six bells, cast at different periods in history. The largest bell has been recast no fewer than eight times over eight hundred years; the last recast took place in the Capanni foundry in 1962. The smaller bell was added on the occasion of the cathedral's jubilee in 2006, while the three original smaller bells were cast in 1806. The oldest bell is the second oldest, dating back to 1588 and still ringing perfectly. This video shows the traditional festive ringing and the glorious ringing with all the bells. • The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is the mother church of the diocese of Parma and stands in the city's central square, next to the famous Baptistery and the Bishop's Palace. Externally it is in Romanesque style. The old cathedral was destroyed by a terrible fire in the 9th century and rebuilt; the second cathedral was also destroyed by fire in 1055. The new cathedral was consecrated in 1106 by Pope Paschal II and is the one that still stands today. The cathedral is entirely frescoed in typical Renaissance style, especially the excellent dome, painted by Correggio between 1524 and 1530. The Gothic bell tower was built to replace the old bell tower. On the night of 21-22 October 2009, the bell tower was struck by lightning, which struck the cross in the hand of the golden angel at the top, causing a major fire and extensive damage. The absolute masterpiece is the famous baptistery, commissioned in 1196 to Benedetto Antelami and completed in 1270, the year in which the building was solemnly consecrated. • 0:00 Intro • 0:33 Sound of Bells • 2:24 Concert of Bells • #bells #church #catholic #catholicchurch #bell #culture #italy #concert
