Is your toilet rocking like a boat? ⛵ • Learn how to fix it quickly and securely using a few simple tools and proper shims designed for the job. Although this should be a second-nature MUST-DO for every plumber and apprentice, you'd be surprised how many shabby professional installs I've come across. Yet, fixing a rocking toilet is easy enough for DIYers and homeowners alike! Say goodbye to the wobble! • Be sure to buy the SOFT RUBBERIZED toilet shims, which will compress nicely and are more likely to remain in place. Do NOT purchase the hard plastic ones, as they don't grip, can't be compressed, and will eventually slip out from beneath the toilet! • You can purchase these rubberized shims online or at any reputable plumbing supplier. • If the scenario allows, place the toilet shims toward the rear of the toilet as possible. Placing them in the front will cause them to wiggle out over time, since the front takes the brunt of the body weight, causing significant leverage fluctuations. Therefore, you want the toilet's front to be sitting as directly onto the floor as possible, so that it's as solid as possible when someone sits on it. • Note that this isn't always possible because the wobbling may be caused from gaps along the front, thus requiring shimming. If the front DOES need shimming, then this is one of the few situations I recommend adding some silicone sealant along most of the base, to keep the shims in place. • If you do silicone seal, be sure to not silicone along the back of the toilet so that water has a place to escape, thereby giving you an indicator that the toilet's flange gasket has failed. • #diy #toilet #plumbing
