For Kant, the moral law is reason itself. When directed at wills like ours, wills that don’t necessarily comply with reason, the moral law’s command is categorical, ordering our wills to comply with reason no matter what our wills are inclined to do. Reason demands non-contradiction. Kant argues that avoiding contradiction requires treating all rational beings as ends in themselves. • A holy will needs no such imperative since it naturally complies with reason. As Kant puts it, a holy will’s compliance with what is objectively necessary is subjectivity necessary, whereas a human will’s compliance is subjectively contingent. • #kant #ethics #philosophy #philosophyoflife #philosophy101 #philosophystudent • #philosophybooks #philosophyquotes • #philosophymajor • #philosophical • #philosophicalbooks • #philosophicalquestions • #فلسفة #दर्शन #तत्वज्ञान #filsafat #pilosopiya #felsefe #filosofie
