One of my Amano shrimp has just released her babies, and it’s incredible to witness! 🦐 • With a few flicks of her pleopods, she sent over 60 tiny baby shrimp into the aquarium. It’s hard to keep track of them all, but they’re so fascinating to watch! • My baby Medaka rice fish even attempted to snack on some of the shrimp, but their mouths are too small to catch them. 🐟 • The shrimp are able to swim away when the fish get too close, which I’ve never seen before since my other tanks have larger fish that can eat them in minutes. • Sadly, while adult Amano shrimp thrive in freshwater, their babies require saltwater to survive. 🌊 • Without it, these baby shrimp won’t make it. Adding salt to this tank would be harmful to the fish and plants 🌿, so there’s no easy solution. • Within hours, the baby shrimp start to settle motionless on the plants, hardscape, and substrate. • It’s unfortunate, but I’m hoping to figure out a way to keep the babies alive next year. • Amano shrimp are always in demand for their excellent algae-eating abilities, and watching the process has made me even more determined to give it another try! 🌱 • #aquarium #fishtank #amanoshrimp #fishkeeping #shrimpkeeping
