Li Wang, a New York-based painter originally from Beijing, China, explores the intersection of queer identity and domestic space through his art. Focusing on nude male bodies, Wang questions traditional concepts of masculinity, infusing his figures with layers of sexual tension, innuendo, and desire. His subjects boldly confront the viewer, inviting them into intimate, secretive acts that challenge stereotypes of strength and vulnerability. • Still life elements—white socks, shorts, underwear, and sneakers—act as private symbols within the Chinese gay community, while personal objects like toys, flowers, and fashion items deepen the narrative of queer male expression. Through these carefully curated scenes, Wang unveils the lives and personalities of individuals often relegated to the margins of American society, offering a poignant glimpse into a world rarely seen. • Learn more about Li's work at https://fragment.gallery/artists/93-l... • Stay engaged with the Foundation by following @monirafoundation8788 • This program is made possible in part by public funds from the Jersey City Arts and Culture Trust Fund in conjunction with our Monira Artist Residencies.
